Wet a line on those crisp winter days
  |  First Published: July 2013

By July the entrance is expected to be open, which hopefully will create another great Australian salmon run.

Winter fishing in Bemm River is for the keen angler who enjoys the sunny crisp winter days and a glass of red in the cool evenings around the fire pot in our entertainment area talking about the days catch.

Bream fishing is usually quiet in the winter months but the larger bream are always a great reward.

The odd flathead can still be picked up but not plentiful as they are very docile during the cooler months.

River fishing has picked up and this is due to the entrance being open as the tides continue to push the salt back into the system.

Now big stocks of bream should start to venture back into the muddy river banks getting ready for their spawning season.

When the river is low there is a lot of fun to be had trying to get that big perch out of the snags, as these fish are as ‘cagey’ as the ‘cagiest’ angler, so be prepared to lose lots of tackle but enjoy the sport of catching one of these great EP’s.

All regular baits can be used this time of season, including sandworm, frozen prawn, Bass yabbies and all your varieties of lures.

Selecting the right day for your fishing trip will give you a great time on the surf beaches as the salmon and tailor swim up and down the coast chasing bait fish.

Please note that you can also catch the odd shark, which is chasing the salmon and tailor.

As one angler discovered last year, that you don’t venture into the water and grab these sharks by the tail because they do bite.

So pack your winter woollies and give us a ring to secure your winter holiday booking.
