The 2013 King of the Pin competition will be held on the 24, 25 and 26 May and will be offering over $40,000 worth of cash, prizes, and giveaways.

The $13,000 boat giveaway is now located at the Gem Hotel at Alberton, drop in for a coldie, a meal and have a look at the great lucky door prize.

There are a few changes for 2013:

Firstly, we introduce of an independent adjudicator, who will be introduced on the day of the weigh in, and will scrutinise all of the fish presented at weigh in. Sadly, our biggest complaint every year is the accusation of cheating. Any fish suspected of being caught in banned areas will not be allowed to be presented for weigh in – the judge’s decision will be final. This will show competitors we are serious about our competition and will not tolerate any form of cheating.

Secondly, they will be an additional four (4) tagged fish. Thanks to Sun Tag we will tag four fish prior to the weekend and release them within the designated boundaries of the competition. We will disclose the release locations and species prior to the weigh in, commencing at 11am to 1pm Sunday at the Gem Hotel. Each tagged fish caught and presented at the weigh in on Sunday will win a $500 cash prize once tag numbers and your entry tickets are verified by the judges and President of Sundowners.

The last change is to our sponsorship. We have introduced four levels of sponsorship ranging from Bronze through Platinum. Bronze $100, Silver $250, Gold $500, Platinum $2000 plus. This was meet with a huge amount of enthusiasm with several new sponsors jumping on board this year such as 5 Star Timbers, Yatala nursery, and many other local Yatala businesses. This year Sundowners would like to welcome new Gold and Platinum sponsors, Vulcan Steel, Club Marine, and Webforge. We would also like to especially mention, a huge increase of sponsorship by Austackle and Jap Spare parts. Mike and Carl both being very enthusiastic about moving our competition in a forward and upward direction, and this is being represented in the increased giveaways, raffles and prizes that will be presented on the day.

As with every year, the same species will apply, bream, whiting, flathead, mulloway and tailor. Everyone check your size and bag limits, no undersize fish will be allowed. Only one of each species will be able to be weighed, so be sure to know which is your heaviest. Serious fines can be enforced by Fisheries if you are caught with over bag limits or undersize fish.

This year we will offer free twelve (12) months membership to our club at the weigh in on Sunday. Join up and get involved, we have many social functions across the year and a club competition every month. You don’t need a boat, as many of our member’s fish from the beach and the banks. We make everyone welcome, and your help with fundraising will make lighter work of our hectic schedule. For everyone that joins and gets involved, you can take away a little goodness in knowing that you’re helping our beneficiary the Beenleigh Special School.

A special thanks to all our sponsors this year who you can find on our brochure in tackle store right now. Please support them and make mention you heard about them from King of the Pin. Also a special thanks to all the members of Sundowners Amateur Fishing Club, who without their tireless efforts at sausages sizzles all year round and many other hard and tiresome jobs, we would be unable to put on as good an event as we do.

From the members of the Sundowners Amateur Fishing Club, I wish you all luck on the weekend. Everyone is fishing the same times and tides so get your lines in the water and see you at weigh in. Tight lines to all on the weekend and I look forward to saying hello on the day. Come and say G’day to any of the members, we’re the good looking ones in the dark blue shirts. For any information or questions, please do not hesitate to call me on mobile 0411 958 076. – President Don Vogel, Sundowners Amateur Fishing Club
