Offshore fishing peaks
  |  First Published: September 2012

Although the weather still hasn't been as consistent as we’ve hoped, we have managed quite a few offshore trips with fantastic results.

The offshore fishing has been excellent. Anglers both inshore and out wide have had a ball with most species on the chew.

The crew did very well during the Rainbow Beach Fishing Classic in late July, with plenty of prizewinning fish. At one evening’s weigh-in, entrants fishing onboard the Keely Rose came first in four out of five offshore categories. Congratulations to my clients who fished so well.

The fish continued to bite even better with many total boat bag-outs, particularly on pearl perch and snapper. The great thing about this time of year is that you don't have to go too far to round up a good feed of fish.

Most bait and rig setups are working well in particular standard dropper rigs and floaters. Soft plastics and live yakkas have scored the big reds and snapper. The good news is that there is currently a heap of live bait around.

September is my favourite month. It has everything going for it with mostly stable, mild weather and plenty of hungry fish out there.

It’s a great month to use soft plastics. If you haven't tried them, give them a go.
