The Sundowners Fishing Club will be staging the King of the Pin family fishing competition on the 25-27 May.
The King of the Pin has been running for over 30 years and is one of the most popular fishing competitions in South East Queensland. Set in the calm waters of the Jumpinpin, this event is great value with heaps of prizes across many species of fish.
The competition has five major categories of fish that frequent these waters: bream, whiting, flathead, tailor and jew. There are four main prize categories: men, ladies, boys and girls (15yrs or under). There are 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in each category and each species, which gives everyone a great chance to get amongst the prizes.
Originally the King of the Pin was crowned by catching the largest bream, but recently the competition has evolved to a random draw of any of the species. This means the heaviest of any of the species can win the $2,000 first prize by random draw at the conclusion of the weigh-in.
All proceeds go to the Beenleigh Special School and every entry puts you in the draw for a 4.2m Gold Rush boat/motor/trailer valued at over $13,000 that is drawn at the conclusion of the weigh-in held in the rodeo arena/car park of the Gem Hotel. You must be present for the draw and there are heaps of random prizes drawn throughout the afternoon, along with raffles, entertainment for kids and adults, plenty of refreshments, live music and all presented by local fishing identity Dave ‘Nugget” Downey.
The boundaries for the competition are Potts Point at the top of Macleay Island all the way down to the Sundale Bridge at the top of the Nerang River. Fishing in land-locked waters is strictly prohibited.
A huge thankyou to the sponsors: the Gem Hotel, XXXX, Schweppes, Gold Rush Powerboats, Beenleigh Truck Parts, Just Jap Spares, Gem Bait and Tackle, Wilson Tackle, Anaconda, Austackle, Tackle Warehouse, Clik Sinkers, Rudy Maas Marina, East Coast Trimming, Southside Marine Trimming, Greens Marine Stainless, John Crawford Marine, Yatala Outboard Wreckers and Battery World.
