Great times for all anglers visiting Bemm River with an abundance of great fishing.
Flathead ranging from 35cm with some of the larger flattys 43-60cm, bream up to 1kg and the odd trevally and tailor.
At the time of writing the water level remains extremely high making all locations easily accessible.
The water is lapping across the entrance, so it is expected that by March the entrance will be open.
Mike Mordenti and his crew have been fishing here for many years, visiting in mid-summer and he maintains this was one of the best years fishing that he has ever experienced.
Mike reported that the best bait used was frozen prawn and pilchards, with more than 60% of fish caught on the pilchards.
Other reports state flathead being caught on blades, soft plastics and hardbodied lures. The lake has been producing some good quality bream, also being caught on prawn and soft plastics.
The river remains quiet, although recently I have been made aware of some good perch and bream being caught on shrimp.
The warm balmy nights are ideal to go surf fishing and reports have been huge Australian salmon and the odd gummy with some big snap offs, possibly bronze whaler sharks as they come in close chasing the salmon.
Recently one of our customers advised that he had a hook up in the channel which was obviously too large for the gear he was using and was snapped off.
Could it be another huge mulloway similar to the one caught by Cameron Stewart earlier in summer?
Who knows, but that is the attraction of Bemm River, you just never know what is around the corner.
