Keysborough Angling Club’s Carrum Classic
  |  First Published: May 2008

The Keysborough Angling Club was proud to present the 2008 Carrum Classic on February 23/24. This family orientated species competition has always been popular, as one fish can bring home a great prize!

Extreme winds prevented the 152 competitors from trying their luck in Port Phillip Bay, however, there were still plenty of spots left to target fish. Anglers reported successful catches from the piers at Frankston and Sorrento, as well as Werribee. Most competitors, however, decided to stay and fish throughout the Patterson River system.

Overall, the weather managed to hamper the number of fish caught for the weekend. In total, 87 fish were weighed in over two days for a total of 44.77kg.

Despite the fish count being lower than last year, the prizes made up for it. All the children who entered were delighted to receive a tackle box prize and an Easter egg each. Juniors, Taylor Close and Douglas Bauer, also received bonus prize packs for their extra fishing efforts.

For all the other divisions, 30 mystery prize draws saw anglers walk away with a variety of goods. They included fishing charters, radios, sounders, dinners, insurance, fishing mag subscriptions (including VFM), rods, reels, vouchers, boat covers and many, many more. However, everyone was waiting for the major prize draw of a boat, motor and trailer package donated by JV Marine World. The lucky recipient was Garth Sullivan who managed a 600g bream to get him into the draw.

We would like to thank everyone for a great weekend of family fun and helping to promote estuary fishing in Patterson Lakes. And a huge thank you to the event sponsors for their generous donations, especially JV Marine World, Jarvis Walker, Quintrex Australia, Yamaha Motors, Dunbiar Trailers and YamaLube Oil. – KAC
