The 20th Annual Hervey Bay Family Fishing Competition organised by the Hervey Bay Boat Club Fishing and Social Club will this year be held from Thursday March 8 to Sunday March 11 at Dayman Park in Pulgul Street, Urangan, Hervey Bay.
There will be hundreds of prizes to win and you don‘t even have to catch a fish to be in the running for most of them.
Many entrants don‘t fish at all and simply go along to enjoy the atmosphere at the presentations, partake in the food and refreshments, perhaps win one of two boats, a computer, one of the hundreds of prizes in the lucky draws or the $1000 dollars cash drawn every day sponsored by the Boat Club.
Draws and presentation times are Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 6-8pm and Sunday 12-3pm and entry fees are seniors $30 and juniors $10.
Live weigh in times are between 8:30-10:30am and 1:30-3.30pm on Friday and Saturday, and 8:30-9.30am on Sunday. Dead weigh in times are between 4-6pm on Friday and Saturday and 10am-12noon on Sunday.
There will be a licensed bar and members of the Rotary Club of Hervey Bay Sunrise will again cater for the event and will provide plenty of hot food for everyone.
The live weigh-in will again be sponsored by Fishermans Corner Hervey Bay with eligible species flathead, bream and whiting.
Species of fish eligible for the dead weigh-in are whiting, blackall, bream, golden trevally and coral bream and also for the seniors an ‘any other species category’ (excluding flathead, cod, Spanish mackerel, shark and ray).
The entrant with the heaviest fish in the any other species category will receive $1000 sponsored by Bay Auto Marine Electrical and there will be daily bonus prizes.
This new prize structure will encourage entrants with bigger boats to venture to the gutters and waters off the eastern side of Fraser Island after the bigger fish.
