Heaps of fishing to be done
  |  First Published: November 2011

November is a very busy month for most anglers; it’s when you find yourself planning your cod opening weekend in December.

Cleaning out the boat and tackle boxes and purchasing all those new goodies for the up coming cod season is a priority for many.

To make it even busier there is also two major fishing events held in Shepparton in mid-November.

We have Trellys Tackle Worlds Fishing expo and sale plus the River Rats Kialla Lakes Fishing Classic. Both events are sure to keep the everyday or keen hardcore anglers very happy.

Speaking to Justin Slater from Trellys he predicts this year’s tackle expo to be one of the biggest in its history. It will be run on November 11 and 12.

Justin has also commented on how good the fishing has been in the freshly stocked Shepparton Lake. I myself have not fished the lake but from all reports it’s a great spot to chase the released trout.

While chasing trout there has been some thumper redfin caught with the Justin confident you can even pick up a yellowbelly or two. I will have more reports on the lake as they come to hand and hopefully get out there for a fish soon.

The fishing leading into November has been consistent, with most anglers opting to use bait in the Goulburn River. Scrub worms seem to be the best bait when chasing the local yellowbelly in the rivers.

A bad sign is that the carp numbers are back on the rise again, so please try and get rid of as many as you can.

I know it’s not everyone’s favourite pastime in catching carp but it maybe your little bit to help get the rivers back to the way they should be.

Kialla Lakes

November is my favourite time at Kialla, with the water temperature up and fish feeding in both morning and mid-afternoon making for an exciting session at the lake.

November will also see the 2nd Kialla Lakes Classic to be held on November 19 and 20.

It’s shaping up to be another quality event with thousands of dollars worth of prizes up for grabs. For just $25 for adults and $15 for under 15’s it’s a very affordable weekend.
