Fishing the Baffle Creek Challenge

With over $12,500 in prizes and giveaways up for grabs, the weeklong Baffle Creek Fishing challenge is attracting interest from far and wide.

The event will be open to men, women and children and will commence at 6.30am on Monday 18 February 2008 until 4.30pm on Friday 22 February. The presentation day will be held on Saturday 23 February at 11am.

Nomination forms are available from all Baffle Creek Business, DJ’s Fishing and Camping on Bourbong St. Bundaberg, Bundaberg Central News Agency, Mermaid Seafood Markets in Bundaberg, Agnes Water Tyre Service, Agnes Water Mechanical Repairs in Gladstone, Auckland St. Butchers, Top Hill Take Away, Bernaraby Store, Tammum News and by phoning Sandy or Alan on 0408 073 026.

The nomination fee for the challenge is $55 per person while children under 13 are free. The cost of non-fishing guests or partners is $45. These prices include a buffet seafood lunch complete with drinks on presentation day. T-shirts are also available for $25 each however you must pre-order.

Check in for the Challenge will be at Village Business Centre, Coast Road at Baffle Creek at 6.30am on Monday 18February.

There are several categories within the challenge. Fish and crab Categories include: flathead, bream (silver only), whiting (all varieties), grunter, cod (estuary only), mangrove jack, other variety such as reef fish (excluding vermin, such as sharks, rays and tuna), mud crab (15cm tip-to-tip), sand crab (15cm tip-to-tip), and long tom.

All fish are to be gutted and gilled (no point system). Only the heaviest legal variety will be accepted and all mud crabs are to be tied. Of course, all Queensland fisheries rules apply in this tournament.

We will be awarding prizes for the heaviest fish and crab categories both daily and weekly. The prizes include a $100 gift voucher (weekly weigh-in winners) donated by DJ’s fishing and camping. There are also 10 lucky door prizes at each weigh-in, plus children’s prizes, a sausage sizzle each day, a sheep on the spit during midweek as well as entertainment all week from Barry Burgum. Every person involved will receive something whether they weigh in or not!

Presentation Day will be held at the Baffle Creek Tavern where the bar has been completed and running with a revamped kitchen serving meals seven day a week (lunch and dinner).
