The Deep Creek Marina at Moama, together with the Moama Football and Netball Club and Bendigo Marine World, is pleased to be hosting their first Annual Fishing Classic.
This fishing competition will be held for one day only, on Saturday March 29. Fishing hours will be between 7am and 4pm. Competition headquarters will be based at the Deep Creek Marina, which is 14km (by road) downstream of Moama, on the Moama side. It is a catch and release competition for all you native fishing tragics, with Murray cod and golden perch the main target species. There will also be prize categories for redfin and carp.
Speaking of prizes, there is a massive $20,000 worth to be given away during this comp, including a Quintrex 370 Traveller dinghy complete with Mercury 15hp outboard. That wouldn’t be a bad result for spending a day doing what you like doing anyway, would it?
In terms of the fishing, the Deep Creek Marina is smack bang in the middle of some of the best water in the area. The Torumbarry Lock ensures there will be some good deep water available for anglers on the day, so there’s definitely no excuse if you can’t put a bend in your rod.
There is camping allowed on the Victorian side, so anglers can stay overnight nearby, ready for an early start the next day (there are boat ramps on the Victorian side at Headworks Road and Farley Road). There will be drinks and a raffle in the Deep Creek Hotel on the Friday night, where competitors can talk tactics and plan their strategies.
On the morning of the competition there will be a cooked breakfast available (at a very reasonable cost!) to keep your tummy from rumbling while you’re trolling up and down, or casting in search of that competition winning cod. At the Marina itself there is a supermarket for last minute supplies, and you can also buy outboard fuel.
There is good bitumen access all the way to the Marina, which is handy for those towing boats. Boat launching is easy, too, with a boat ramp allowing launching straight into the creek.
At the end of the day there will be a prize giving presentation for all the lucky winners, commencing at around 4.30pm. Of course, there will be some refreshments on hand to help celebrate landing that big one – or commiserate losing it!
So what are you waiting for? The talking’s all been done, now all that remains is for you to get out and show your stuff at the Annual Fishing Classic at the Deep Creek Marina, Moama. Everything is all laid out for you to have a great day on the water, and you may well win some handy prizes as a bonus!
Entry cost only $25 for adults and $10 for youngsters under 15 years of age.
