A beautiful spring day greeted anglers as they set out to compete in the Whiting round of the competition. Higher than forecast winds meant that anglers who chose to fish in the more sheltered spots such as the Logan and Coomera rivers tended to have a much more pleasant and productive day.
With a low tide around 11am, it was never going to be an easy day’s fishing for a species that generally fishes better on an incoming tide and also at night. However, some fantastic fish were caught and the whole field managed to score points - not a doughnut in sight!
Capalaba Fishing Club members Ross Schwartz and Dom Ferre followed up their success in the earlier Bream Round by winning by a convincing margin. However, they didn’t score highly in the Flathead Round so the overall leader board, heading into the final round in November, is very tightly packed.
The winning senior male was also Ross Schwartz with 1,540 points and the winning senior female was Sundowners Fishing Club’s Shirley Hudson with 404 points.
With just 422 points separating the top five anglers, the race to be crowned King of Moreton Bay is wide open.
We look forward to seeing everybody again (and some new faces) next month where an exiting weekend of fishing is guaranteed along with the chance to win thousands of dollars of prizes including plenty of Lucky Draw prizes. - Austackle
