The first weekend of the 2008 Khancoban Troutfest, held on November 22-29, saw atrocious weather of thick snow, freezing temperatures and slight rain. This was followed up by driving rain, lightning, thunderstorms and anything else the elements could throw at us. As a result, only the hearty turned out to weather the conditions.
The main target, trout, were loving the conditions but not lures, bait or flies, so only a handful were weighed in. The redfin, on the other hand, thought all their Christmases had come at once and were willing to chew down on virtually any thing that was presented.
The week ended up being a little quiet as far as trout numbers weighed in were concerned, but having a chat back at the presentations on Saturday at the Country Club, tall stories were told with the “one that got away” growing bigger as the night progressed.
The organisers would like to thank the sponsors, Khancoban Lakeside Caravan Resort, Snowy Hydro, Tumbarumba Shire Councillors Ron Blyton and Sue Fletcher, WAW, Khancoban Country Club, Khancoban Angling Club, Loftys Lures and Burwood Mazda. Also Tumbarumba Shire Council for their grant and the work put in by Deb Paton, Tourist Officer, behind the scenes. – Stuart McKinnon
