The Telstra Shop Kawana Waters, Sunshine Coast Game Fishing Club will once again kick off the new year with its Classic Tournament.
This year it will be held from February 3-6 and anglers will travel from all over the country to fish one of Australia’s marlin hotspots. With the marlin grounds starting at the famous 8 Mile light tackle grounds and stretching to the shelf and beyond for the heavy tackle prize of blue marlin, the Classic is set to be hotly contested.
Up to 50 boats will fish one of South East Queensland’s most successful tournaments and are in the running for major prizes. Champion anglers will take home Shimano Tiagra reels and the ladies will be fishing to win diamond jewellery. At the heart of any club is its juniors and this year they will fish for fantastic prizes including I-Pods plus much much more. Add to this a reverse angler draw on the final day where anglers will win everything from rods, lure packs, sounders and one lucky last person will win the boating package.
The season so far has been fantastic off the Sunshine Coast with a great run of sailfish at the October Spring Shootout that saw over 85 sailfish tagged by 22 boats in difficult conditions in two days! Add to this a good run of heavy tackle blue marlin plus some massive mahi mahi and the anglers are now set for the traditional run of light tackle black marlin. The February tournament is run from the Kawana Waters Hotel, on the water at Lawrie’s Marina.
With plenty of accommodation surrounding the water and boats rafted up right in front of the hotel, this event will be a true spectacle. For more details visit www.scgfc.com.au. - SCGFCReads: 1994
