Molloy Beats Moogerah!
  |  First Published: November 2010

Despite the forecast of rain for Moogerah on the cards, 22 keen anglers turned up for the last qualifying round of the Bass Electric Series.

Thankfully the heavy rain held off, with only a couple of light showers to bother the eager competitors. The dam has had a good rise in recent months to 62%, which really fired up the bass for the event. Twenty-eight legal bass hit the scales at the end of the session with plenty of reports of undersize specimens throughout the dam.

Most of the anglers headed to the edges for their bag limits, and it was no surprise to see all top five anglers catch their fish on lipless crankbaits or blades.

First place was taken by Daniel Molloy with two fish for 2.290kg, which included the Big Bass of 1.475kg. Danny used a Daiwa Certate 2500 reel spooled with 10lb Finns and 12lb fluorocarbon leader on a Loomis rod. He fished with Dave Bullard on the points down towards the timber with a VT-65 Ecogear nailing his two keepers in two casts.

In second place was Jack Gold with two fish for 2.020kg. Jack fished with his son Ben to the edges, with both of his fish falling to a TN50 Jackall Brown Dog. Jack used a Mojiko rod matched with a Pflueger reel spooled with 10lb line and 10lb leader.

Coming in third was Rory Saint with two fish for 2.015kg. Working up in the gorge, he caught his two keepers on 1/2oz Evergreen Little Max blades to the edges using a custom-made BarraBass rod made by Brad Clark with a Shimano 2500 Stella spooled with 4lb Crystal and 6lb fluorocarbon leader.

In fourth place was Jason Lyons with two fish for 1.685kg after fishing the edges at the gorge. Jason got one bass on a TN60 Jackall and the other on 1/2oz Evergreen Little Max Bluegill blade.

Finishing fifth was Glenn White with two fish for 1.470kg. Glenn also fished the edges and got his two bass on blades.

With four of the top five anglers already qualified for the Convention, the countback went right down to fourteenth place. Jason Sreketec, Luke Clark, John Bacon and Jason Lowe are all off to the Bass Electric Convention at Lake Cania on the 2-3 October.

Thanks to Jason Lyons for all his help during the comp. Thanks to all for coming and hopefully see you at the final. - Rory Saint
