Despite an unfavourable weather forecast, 280 people registered for the Carp for Cancer event at Clifton on 18-19 September.
The comp saw an increase of approximately 55 competitors from last year with around 200 campers for the weekend. However, the total quantity of carp caught and measured was only 195, compared to 571 last year. The total accumulative measurement of carp was 77.07m with the longest measuring 735mm.
There was also a lot of yellowbelly caught and released (most undersize) which is evidence of the restocking effort by local Nobby Fishing Club.
All proceeds of the event are given to The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. The approximate figure raised is around $10,500.
There were many businesses that supported this year’s event with the major players being Warwick Outdoors & Sport; Frogley’s Offshore; Pure Fishing; Alvey; Plano; Fish-n-Bits, Toowoomba; Glenmar Fuels, Allora; Fishing Monthly Group; The Open Range, Toowoomba; Engel and Fishing DVD. – Colleen Kratzmann
