Footy’s over – time for bream
  |  First Published: October 2010

The football has finished and the snow has melted so it’s now time to head to Bemm River and enjoy the warm spring weather and excellent fishing.

The fishing has been slow in the past month due to the amount of fresh water entering the lake system as a result of recent heavy winter rains.

This will have a positive effect as the lake level rises rapidly to give us another entrance opening for the spring season.

Even though the weather has been inclement, the hardy anglers have worked their way throughout the system with quality fish, but not quantity.

Sandworm is becoming more difficult for our bait collectors due to the high water level. Frozen prawn, soft plastic and vibes are all still very effective though.

When conditions have allowed, the surf has produced salmon and tailor.

Help needed

If any reader has any idea for grants or funding, our Angling Club and local Progress Association are desperately trying to raise money to get some urgently needed navigation aids.

This has been an ongoing battle for many years. With the amount of people visiting this area, it is imperative we obtain navigation aids before we experience a tragedy, especially in the evenings when people like to go prawning.

It is unbelievable to think Bemm River is one of the only places in Gippsland that does not have navigation aids. Any information would be greatly appreciated and can be directed to me at the address below.

David and Robyn Sturgess operate Bemm River Accommodation, and can be contacted on www.bemmaccommodation.com.au , Phone: (03) 5158 4233 /Mob. 0427 584233 and email: --e-mail address hidden--
